Short Bio

Welcome to my academic website!

I am a post doctoral researcher with the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto, working with Professor Alberto Leon-Garcia and Professor Dimitrios Hatzinakos.

I received my Ph.D. in 2014 and my M.A.Sc. in 2010 from the same department, under the supervision of Professor Dimitrios Hatzinakos. Prior to joining University of Toronto, I received my Diploma degree in 2008 from the department of Electronics and Computer Engineering at the Technical University of Crete, Greece under the supervision of Professor Stavros Christodoulakis.

Education

Research

My research interests span primarily in the area of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), as well as allied areas such as network protocols, network programming and network security. I am mainly working on the development, simulation and implementation of multi-hop routing protocols, cognitive radio and opportunistic networks. I am familiar with network simulators such as OMNET++ ,NS2 and NS3 as well as C and python programming.

Projects

Self-Powered Sensor Networks,(ORF-SPSN)

This is a multidisciplinary project under the Ontario Research Fund (ORF), consisting of many University of Toronto faculty members, research associates and industrial partners, from a wide domain of areas, including communications, materials science, nanotechnology, computer science and biochemistry. The project has a five-year plan, with a total budget of over CND$9 million. My technical contributions involves designing the wireless communication architecture, implementing signal processing algorithms for chemical sensing and detection and combining sensor nodes with radio nodes. Also, my role includes providing overall coordination, ensuring that the technical milestones and financial objectives are timely achieved. In particular, I'm working closely in the development and commercialization of the products, in conjunction with the industrial partners AD Telecom, Spain, SIRADEL, France and OMESH Networks, Canada. More information about the project can be found at the website of the project.

BioFace

BioFace is a face authentication system for smart phone devices. The system was developed in collaboration with my friend and colleague Jiexin (Alice) Gao. The idea for the project was to design and implement a biometric based user authentication application for access control, which can run on top of other applications that grant the user access when applicable. The application was developed on Android 2.2 platform and it is also compatible with Android 2.4 platform while it was tested in a number of smart phone devices.
